Lotmaria passim (Kinetoplastea: Trypanosomatidae) in honey bees from Argentina

چکیده
Lotmaria passim (Kinetoplastea) is considered the most prevalent as well virulent trypanosomatid associated to European honey bee Apis mellifera. We used qPCR screen for presence of this parasite in 57 samples from ten Argentinian provinces, and were able detect its throughout country with 41% testing positive. In a retrospective analysis, we detected L. 73% 2006 showing that flagellate has been widely present Argentina at least ~15 years. Additionally, three primer sets detection compared, pair produced smallest PCR product having best capability. Finally, also found DNA 100% (n = 6) mite Varroa destructor. The role ectoparasite lifecycle Lotmaria, if any, remains unrevealed.

Characterization of Two Species of Trypanosomatidae from the Honey Bee Apis mellifera: Crithidia mellificae Langridge and McGhee, and Lotmaria passim n. gen., n. sp.
Trypanosomatids are increasingly recognized as prevalent in European honey bees (Apis mellifera) and by default are attributed to one recognized species, Crithidia mellificae Langridge and McGhee, 1967. We provide reference genetic and ultrastructural data for type isolates of C. mellificae (ATCC 30254 and 30862) in comparison with two recent isolates from A. mellifera (BRL and SF). Phylogeneti...
متن کاملHost sharing by the honey bee parasites Lotmaria passim and Nosema ceranae
The trypanosome Lotmaria passim and the microsporidian Nosema ceranae are common parasites of the honey bee, Apis mellifera, intestine, but the nature of interactions between them is unknown. Here, we took advantage of naturally occurring infections and quantified infection loads of individual workers (N = 408) originating from three apiaries (four colonies per apiary) using PCR to test for int...
متن کاملEarly gut colonizers shape parasite susceptibility and microbiota composition in honey bee workers.
Microbial symbionts living within animal guts are largely composed of resident bacterial species, forming communities that often provide benefits to the host. Gut microbiomes of adult honey bees (Apis mellifera) include core residents such as the betaproteobacterium Snodgrassella alvi, alongside transient parasites such as the protozoan Lotmaria passim To test how these species affect microbiom...
متن کاملTaste Perception in Honey Bees
Taste is crucial for honeybees for choosing profitable food sources, resins, water sources, and for nestmate recognition. Peripheral taste detection occurs within cuticular hairs, the chaetic and basiconic sensilla, which host gustatory receptor cells and, usually a mechanoreceptor cell. Gustatory sensilla are mostly located on the distal segment of the antennae, on the mouthparts, and on the t...
متن کاملEuropean foulbrood in honey bees.
European foulbrood (EFB) is a severe bacterial brood disease caused by the Gram-positive bacterium Melissocccus plutonius. The disease has a worldwide distribution and is an increasing problem in some areas. Although the causative agent of EFB was described almost a century ago, many basic aspects of its pathogenesis are still unknown. This review presents both historical results and recent mol...
